BUSINESS
Making Avocados Mainstream and Planting Trees
Avocados From Mexico
The decade of the Mexican Avocado - "Avocados From Mexico" has revolutionized the way we see avocados in the U.S. In just a decade, they've turned a package-free fruit into a powerhouse brand, achieving a staggering 60% preference among U.S. consumers.
Their bold marketing moves, like Super Bowl ads and unique partnerships with major brands, have placed avocados at the forefront of American culture, especially during football season and events like Cinco de Mayo. The economic output of imported Mexican avocados is up 500 percent with a US GDP of more than $6.1 billion annually!
Beyond branding, they're committed to sustainability, aligning with the UN's goals and contributing to significant reforestation efforts. Looking ahead, they're not just selling avocados; they're nurturing hearts and appetites, aiming to make the U.S. the top per-capita consumer of this nutritious fruit.
CULTURA
Meet Young Miko - The female, queer, reggaeton artist named Billboard’s Latin Rookie of the Year
A new voice in Latinx music - Young Miko, Billboard's 2023 Latin Rookie of the Year, has swiftly transitioned from a tattoo artist to a prominent figure on Latin music's biggest stages. Her unique, queer-centric lyrics and a blend of trap and reggaetón resonate deeply with fans, establishing her as a bold fresh voice in música urbana.
Discovered on SoundCloud, her authentic approach, distinctive voice, and collaboration with Wave Music Group have been key to her ascent. Young Miko’s rapid rise to fame includes performing with stars like Karol G, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Tainy, and Jowell & Randy.
With hits like “Lisa”, “Wiggy”, “Riri”, she recently embarked on her own nearly 50-city “Trap Kitty” world tour. Personally, Young Miko has been my favorite Latinx artist to have discovered this year, and can’t wait to see what is to come from her.
IMPACTO
Latinos in California want a green economy, but one that works for all.
Rising up and sharing their stories - "Levanta Tu Voz," a dynamic campaign in California, is bringing Latino voices to the forefront of the state's energy debate. Spearheaded by Argelia León, the campaign aims to shine a light on how new laws banning gas-powered vehicles and appliances disproportionately impact Latino families and businesses.
Hispanic Californians are the largest racial or ethnic group in the state, making up 39.4% of the state population in the 2020 census. However, the current energy proposals don’t consider them. At its core, Levanta Tu Voz is a call for equitable environmental policy, ensuring all Californians, regardless of income, can participate in the state's green transition.
With strong support from leaders like Julian Cañete of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, it's challenging policies that will impact over 800,000 Hispanic-owned businesses. The campaign's extensive reach includes TV, radio, social media, and public events, highlighting a stark gap in electric vehicle ownership between wealthier white Californians and low-income Latino families.
