comprende 055: A New Chapter for Comprende

BIENVENIDO

Hola! It’s been a minute. My last newsletter? April. Which in internet years is like...3 lifetimes ago.

If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ve seen I never really disappeared and in fact have been very active there. Sharing thoughts, connecting with folks, reflecting out loud. That space has been energizing. I’ve loved the two-way conversations and hearing what resonates with people doing the work.

But when it comes to Comprendethis newsletter, the social video content, the creative storytelling I started this platform with, I hit pause.

1. The Pause

Why? A few things happened and I want to be more vulnerable in sharing the process of building in public. While traveling, I had a life-changing personal situation that caused a lot mental, emotional, and financial pain. Due to this, I had to come back home. And, when I finally felt back on track, I lost my biggest client due to reasons beyond my control.

I needed to breathe. To rethink. So, I took time to step back and figure out where I was really going.

2. The Reset

In that space, a few things became clear. First, I teamed up with FAMOSOS, to lead up their partnerships efforts in the U.S. Latino market, which many of you already know, is a company deeply aligned with my mission to uplift Latinos through creators and transform how brands speak to us. That grounded me again.

Then, I got back on the road. Landed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And for the first time in a long time, I had space to think.

The slower rhythm of the city. The mate in the mornings. Conversations on corners. Walking with no agenda. I didn’t realize how much I needed that pace. And in it, how much I missed storytelling.

That’s when it hit me. Comprende was never just about business. At least, it doesn’t have to be.

I started it with the idea of spotlighting Latino founders and curating stories with the long-term goal of building a Latino-owned marketplace. And while that vision is still alive, something’s shifted.

Exploring Buenos Aires on my first day here over a month ago now.

I don’t just want to tell stories about success. I want to tell stories about us. Latinos. Real ones.

From the Latina founder building a billion-dollar company, to the Latino artist trying to make it. From the content creator figuring it out post by post, to the local shop owner making it for their familia, and the career professional breaking barriers as the only one in the room.

That’s the heart of Comprende.

3. The Shift: Comprende 2.0

So here’s where Comprende is going:

🌎 Latino stories that show the full picture: Not just business wins or founder features, but anyone building, dreaming, or simply living with intention. I want to tell stories that reflect the full spectrum of who we are. From U.S. Latinos to those living in their home country.

📹 More intentional video work: short documentary-style storytelling, grounded in people and place. New formats. The kind of content that observes, not just announces. Bilingual. Rooted in cultura. (Follow me @comprendelatino on all platforms to watch the new video content)

📰An evolving newsletter space: Letting go of structure and leaning into voice and rhythm. Not following a formula, just sharing what moves us: from business and cultura to community, tradition, and the moments, people, and stories that deserve the mic.

4. What about the Latino-owned Marketplace?

Still part of the vision. But I’m pressing pause on that for now.

Because after two years of working at the forefront with Latino startups and fortune 500 companies, I’ve seen and am awake to a true fact: AI is changing things.

Tech is easier than ever to build and replicate. And with Perplexity’s recent update, it’s clear shopping will begin to change as well–it already is.

But, I’ve realized this: community, story, audience, and reach will be the real value moving forward. And that's where I'm putting my energy for now.

A perfect example of community: drinking mate, sharing stories, and catching up with friends I met 7 years in Barcelona, who both now live in Buenos Aires.

5. A New Chapter Comienza

This next version of Comprende is still about impact. Still about Latinos.

But it’s more honest. More grounded. More us. Nosotros.

Gracias as always for the support and encouragement!

Un abrazo,

-Danny Miró-Chinea Founder of Comprende
